So you want to live to be 100? The answers to living a long and happy life may come from Japan which has the longest average life expectancy in the world (83.84 years) and where 2 million people are over the age of 90. Believe it or not, 6 of the top 10 oldest people alive are from Japan including Nabi Tajima of Kagoshima who is 117 years old and the last human alive born in the 19th century!
How did so many Japanese get to live so long?
What are some of the things Japanese do right?
In this episode, John travels to Tottori Prefecture to the area around Mt Daisen where his friend Tomiko-san gives him some advice about how to live a long life and how she's lived to be 106 years old and still working on the farm!
She started to make tofu in the 1950s when doctors said residents had to reduce high blood pressure. She made her own tofu for her family and her diet combined with good habits including staying busy and working hard have strengthened her mind and body. She still walks and writes tanka poetry.
I also ask Mr. Seiichi, my 97 year old Japanese neighbor his secret and hear from a Shinto priest about his thoughts and personal experiences with living a very long and happy life in Japan.
It's impossible to say exactly what has led to Japan having the longest average life expectancy in the world but these things may help:
★ Green Tea
★ Less fatty foods
★ Fermented foods
★ Bath culture / Hot Springs & Onsen
★ Smaller portions
★ Education on personal responsibility
★ National safety / low crime rates
★ Respect for the Elderly (It's a national holiday too!)
Special thank you to Daisen Town & Yonago City in Tottori Prefecture for the help. Daisen is celebrating its 1300th anniversary this year and you're invited to the party in June 2018! http://www.daisen1300.org/
Always thankful for TeknoAXE (Matthew Huffaker)

Secret to living a long life?
2:20 *Be Female*
Seriously, have a look at the lists yourselves, its dominated by women.
Top ten oldest people of all time are all women.
Way to go ladies! Long live women!
I'm intolerant to tofu. Gives me acne, I'm guessing maybe I'm consuming the GMO ones or has to do with the process it undergoes in our country. Maybe if it's made from scratch like in Japan, maybe I wont breakout. Maybe.. 😭
Unfortunately , in 2018 visited japan and shocked by the sheer numbers of young Japanese who eating at Mcdonald & KFC to point where it was hard to get empty seat to have my Great American hamburger .
This video only represent the old generation diet not the young ones.Japan has influenced badly by Trump-culture fast food.
I think the secret to long life is applying the art of moderation in all aspects of life. They do things moderately and live simply. Avoid extremes if you can. Cheers to a happy and long life. Banzai! 🇯🇵⛩😄😬
" I BELIEVE IN LIVING WITH NATURE" THIS IS THE PAST,, FUKUSHIMA TOOK CARE OF THIS,, NOT THE GENS. BORN POST 1945;; this is OVER NOW. NUCLEAR ENERGY TOOK CAR OF THIS;; BY THE WAY this is a great video LOVED IT,
I think their long lives are largely due to their diets;they eat lightly - organic itsu miso, other organic soy products, green tea, black tea, vegetables, seafood. Also, the elderly are respected and Japanese people are very socially responsible with a low crime rate and are usually calm people, they meditate and they do tai chi together.
I agree that this video wasn't intended for spiritual matters, but as a 3rd generation Japanese American whose parents were locked in American concentration camps during WWII, I'm desperate to find anyone who will read and care about the souls of Japanese people. I was raised Buddhist, but became a Christian at 30yo. Though I pray for my extended family, very few have accepted Christ even though we all live in California and have access to hearing the Gospel. I once read that only 2% of Japanese are Christians. 😥 I also read that Japan adds over 200 new religions a year! That is why I believe that they are clearly searching for God. An example is my Mom, now 88yo. She was heavily influenced by the cult 'est' in the 70s (as were many famous people including Cher, John Denver and Yoko Ono to name a few. Mom's also thinks that Atlantis was real. Now she follows in her mother's footsteps and believes in Osayama, the founder of the Japanese religion, Tenrikyo. My heart breaks for Japan and my relatives. Yes, Japan is beautiful, but tragically, its people are lost. Thanks for reading and your thoughts are welcomed.
They don't have all the stress and 🐂💩process food the government their laws are better they are cleaner. It use to be like this in america in the 60's and 70's now the young die early. Racism lawlessness corruptions you name it in america. 😠
The tofu İ had was so dry, plain, no sweet taste at all. İt put me off so badly. Now that İ see the way it’s made İ will try again but opt for a freshly made version; funny enough İ look forward eating tofu again. Thank you to ‘all of you’ that changed the way İ look at tofu again.
The Samoan people lived a longer life before westerners implicated their products into the Samoans culture, can goods corn beef, spam, etc. Samoans are ranked as one of the highest obese and # of diabetes country in the world. So!! how do we fix this issue?
This is beautiful to watch..
On the other hand, my grandpa passed on 2013 @108... He looked way young compared to this woman, he never used walking stick, his set of teeth was intact plus perfect memory and his face was only a little wrinkled..
He lived for Christ so His ultimate strength and energy came from the Lord...
The wife to my paternal grandpa's brother passed last year @ 125... we used to say death forgot her...
So here in Kenya and from my family have seen many 100+ people who are strong...
I'm glad we have lots of natural food stuff here so it's just a choice on how to live, but to me, Jesus is the ultimate reason for if we hope in Him will He renew our strength, we will run and not grow weary, we will walk and not be faint..he is the giver of peace, love and joy plus protection from all harm.. But we shouldn't forget living a healthy lifestyle🇰🇪🇰🇪🇰🇪🇰🇪🇰🇪
Recently i admitted in a hospital, and during the stay i unexpectedly learn something how to live healthy in a long time. All of the points described in the video is correct but should be done in moderation. But the secret is not there. By seeing it like that it wont work. The key are balance, rest, love, stress and routine.

In my country INDONESIA, we call it Tahu, in Japan it's called tofu. This food is made from soy ingredients. in Indonesia sold at very cheap prices. tofu is mostly consumed by middle-class people and is very popular among students, especially migrant students and who live in boarding houses because of the cheap price of tofu. Though this tofu has a really rich health content
Japanese live so long because they eat 70% full or below.and they can't afford to eat full, the foods they're eating too .
But if free foods they're got full plate (when they're on American cruise ship)
If ye love me, keep my commandments.
John 14:15 KJV
Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
Exodus 20:8-9 KJV
Saturday is the day of the Lord
The claim that Christ by his death abolished his Father’s law, is without foundation. Had it been possible for the law to be changed or set aside, then Christ need not have died to save man from the penalty of sin. The death of Christ, so far from abolishing the law, proves that it is immutable. The Son of God came to “magnify the law, and make it honorable.” [Isaiah 42:21.] He said, “Think not that I am come to destroy the law;” “till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in nowise pass from the law.” [Matthew 5:17, 18.] And concerning himself he declares, “I delight to do thy will, O my God; yea, thy law is within my heart.” [Psalm 40:8.] GC88 466.3
Ecclesiastes 12:13 KJV
Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
